Two thirds of British Facilities Management don't recognise the signs of Gas detection failure

Two thirds of Businesses don't recognise the signs of Gas detection failure

viewmyair conducted an independent review into the understanding of gas detection within commercial businesses - October 2021.  We contacted over 100 businesses in the southeast that use gas as a source of utility heating or service providing, such as the kitchen. Unfortunately, 66 of the 100 businesses we contacted confirmed there was no maintenance regime in place for their gas detection. Many of the businesses we contacted hadn't of heard of gas detection, its safety features, its legislation or how the low cost and simple installation of sensor technology is readily available.

Gas detection is the first line of defence in your fire safety strategy. Gas Detection equipment often gets installed and forgotten about. It’s often the case that these safety systems are installed and left for their duration.

It is recommended that gas detection servicing be carried out at least once a year and more than once in extreme environments. In addition, many manufacturers advise of a life expectancy of only 5 years on gas detection sensors. Meaning many may already be not fit for purpose. Every second counts and ensuring the gas detection maintenance regime is standard practice is the first line of safety to prevent catastrophic events within buildings.
